Woka Woka - Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane
October 16, 2018
Although we were suggested to order Woka Woka's main dishes and have rice on the side, we thought we'd order two classic dishes to share. The first that came out was their 'Hokkien Fried Rice' which was not exactly what I had hoped for. The combination of chicken, shrimp and vegetables was smothered in a thick sweet gravy placed on top of of rice. When mixed altogether with the rice, it should've tasted slightly salty and balanced with the rice. However, this was just quite bland overall.
'Chow Kway Teow' is usually one of our favourite noodle dish to order however, this was just a capital letter NOPE. Not today, it wasn't. Expecting to have a soy sauce based kway teow but instead, we got a full curry powdered ho fun dish with a mixture of chicken and prawn. But, O-M-G, the amount of curry powder was so strong that everything, every single thing in the dish just tasted like curry powder. Was not a good meal at all.
The way the waitress served it on our table was already rough enough, just harshly placing it on the table, even the sides of the plate wasn't clean and was quite oily too. Not a very good start.
Not sure if you can tell from the images but the lightly soy coloured ho fun just went down to the curry powder puddle and just fully drenched it. Not too sure if we actually chose the wrong dish or maybe this was how it was meant to be served. But pretty sure that there was nothing that sounded like curry noodle on their menu.
Haven't been back there since, so that shows our enthusiasm to try their other dishes despite mixed reviews of it being yum. Oh, and it seems they have opened a branch in Underwood too, so maybe... maybe, we would come visit and try again. One day..
