Maru Korean BBQ - Elizabeth Street, Brisbane CBD
October 22, 2018
Ever since their expansion, it has been ongoing busy whether you come for lunch or dinner. Lunch specials allows diners to experience Korean dishes with that bit of a discount however, the main menu still stands.
'Spicy Pork Bibimbap' served in a stone bowl, their Bibimbap has a few varieties ranging from the traditional to spicy chicken, spicy pork, marinated beef as well as raw wagyu beef. The vegetables in the bowl was a combination of carrots, beansprouts, cucumber, mushrooms, wombok, spinach, shallots, sesame seed, sesame oil and an egg yolk placed in the middle of the bowl. Although on the menu it said that there was spinach, wombok and shallots, I could not see it on the bowl nor was it underneath the spicy pork which was quite sad.
'Maru Fried Chicken' consisted of three different flavours, original, soy and spicy. I felt that the soy only had a slight soy hint which was another dissapointment as it tasted similar to the original chicken. Some were drier than the others but overall, quite a good feed to share. I would be expecting a lot anyhow due to its price. The spicy flavoured chicken also had a hint of sweetness in it making the original the most salty based although, it was not salty at all either.
A small side of fresh salad was placed at the end of the chopping board but I do feel that this has been quite inconsistent during my every visit and ordering this dish. As sometimes, you would get a full bowl of salad, but sometimes, you would only get 3/4 or 1/2 the bowl. For such a big portion of chicken, I would've expected a bigger portion salad as the salad was more of a side and easily finished by one instead of being able to share it around.
