Sandgate Fishmonger, Sandgate, Brisbane
April 25, 2015
Sandgate Fishmonger lies on Flinders Parade opposite the beach which is convenient. Though their competitor is about less than 1km walk away, they both do serve differently. However, here, they accept both cash or Eftpos which is good whilst the other, only accepts eftpos. It was rather quiet today but many came for their Gelati instead of their fish and chips.
We bought their special of 'Fish & Chips' special of the day in which you could choose between 3 different types of how you would like cooked and 2 different types of fish. We chose the Battered Barramundi and when it came out, I was quite surprised. The Barramundi had a nice texture and was cooked well, the batter was too thick with it being frying in used oil or for a bit too long, it made the batter go more brown that it should have. The chips did not compliment the Barra any better with its soggy and not crispy texture, a quarter of lemon wedge or salt did not make it all any better. When I came here previously, the portion of chips were genuinely served and was crispy. Not too sure what happened here today..
