Comfort at my Table, Milton, Brisbane
October 20, 2013
The breakfast place that had everyone talking and it wasn't in New Farm or the city, or Paddington or the Gabba, it was in Milton.. Though I have found parking quite hard around here, I gave it a try when I met up with a few friends for brunch during my break off uni..
Parking is quite hard to find, though you can park on the road side or maybe behind the restaurant where there's a small parking available.. It looks quite small from the front with its narrow doors and crowded front glass filled with posters and advertisements.. However, when I arrived, there seemed to be queue already and tables were half filled inside.. Quite a cute, uniquely designed cafe with pale pinkish coloured walls, girly chic feel, mixture of wooden and white chairs and tables.. Pastries and cakes displayed on the glass counter, people coming in and out for take away coffees too..
It's hard to find a breakfast all day place but there's a few around in Brissy and here's one of them.. They do add about a few lunch dishes on top of it which kind of gives you that broad choice of what you feel like eating... I ordered the 'Mixed Mushrooms' ($11.8) which includes wood ear, field, enoki, shiitake mushrooms and other mushrooms that they can get their hands on along with housemade ricotta cheese, grilled lemon, rocket, pepitas all on a toasted sourdough.. oh, and i also added a poached egg ($1.5)..
Grilled lemon was a nice touch but didn't really use it as I just wanted to taste the dish by itself.. The pepita seeds and housemade ricotta blended in well with the various mushrooms.. I really liked how they would include all these different types of mushrooms in a dish, and not simply just one specific type.. Portion was large which meant that I had to leave the sourdough behind on the plate..
'BLT' ($8.8) with extra avocado ($2).. The BLT comes with bacon, rocket, tomato relish with toasted sourdough bread.. The portion again, was well portioned and the presentation was simple... It was okay overall, but it wasn't anything special..
'Soup of the day' was mushroom soup along with buttered toast.. Did not try the mushroom soup but it was apparently just okay and because the portion was a big bowl of soup, it kind of got too much as the flavour was quite strong..
The mushroom soup had a dollop of cream inside which has not been mixed in the soup which is a nice presentation of a creamy soup.. The cream blended in well with the mushroom soup and although it was creamy, the mushroom itself still had a few of mushroom pieces and not just creamed or mashed..
