Bamboo Basket, Southbank, Brisbane
November 01, 2011
Heard there was a chinese restaurant near the Southbank Cinemas, so decided to give it a try ... "Bamboo Basket" .. I've walked past it a few times but never had the urge to go in and give it a try .. so finally I did ...
the interior..the inside of the restaurant.. one side of it anyway .. the other side, i forgot to take a photo off.. coloured in black and red mostly with white light spotlights ...
Each tables had a set or vinegar, chilli and soy sauce ... quite cute really ... dunno why i thought so.. but hey..
'Xiao Long Bao' ... are Shanghai Style steamed pork dumplings with soup filling... they're not just normal steamed pork dumplings as they have the pork juices inside the dumplings which simply must burst in your mouth when you take a bite... there has been a few places which I thought didn't really taste like actual xiao long bao .. you know the ones where the juices don't burst out, or maybe there weren't any juices at all which sucks ==" but ye .. this one was quite good actually ... considering the amount of pork inside and the taste of the juice bursting inside the mouth .. mmm yummy ...
'Shredded Duck Salad with Shallot & Fried Onion Mixed Cold Noodle' .. this was really a good idea as they seperated the meat and noodles whilst placing it on the same plate ..
The Shredded Duck cooked with vegetables and sesame seeds..
After eating the shredded duck, we ended up ordering another one of the mixed noodles hahah... but this time, 'BBQ Pork with shallot & fried onion oil mixed cold noodle' .. Seeing that everyone liked pork, it was quickly gobbled down hehehh
look at the pooooooooooooooooooooork ........
Our dishes so far ...
It might not seem as much .. but this did feed a few people hehehh... and we ended up finishing everything .. or maybe we were really hungry ..?
'Pan-Fried Dumplings' ... these looked so funny when they first came out, coz i didn't realise what they were .. that the dumplings were at the bottom ... but just their butts were stuck on the fried pan of the dumpling.. the pan bit was crispy...
This was their 'Pan-Fried Flatbread' .. It was really nice actually as you could have this as like an entree or as a snack and a good way to share food around with your friends .. You could choose from BBQ Pork, Shredded Duck or Egg & Chives for the fillings..
Definitely worth a try if you feel like eating yum cha or chinese food .. and even if you're in city, take a walk down to Southbank and just come over here .. or take the train if you can't be bothered ... this chinese restaurant is probably better than the chinese restaurants I've tried in the CBD ...
